This past year, the Nomadic Nature Trunk program expanded its reach from serving only rural schools to also encompassing the urban center of Ulaanbaatar where one-half of Mongolia’s population resides. Teacher-trainers are tasked with providing instructional methods for their colleagues while program facilitators will ensure that lessons are being conducted correctly.

With the growth of the program, the Snow Leopard Conservancy will be providing additional trunks as needed. Handcrafted chests like the one shown below are being constructed by a local craftsman.

With this expansion into an urban area, we are hoping to be able to reach a greater number of children and their respective families, which in turn should have a larger impact on snow leopard conservation through both individual and community action.

Nature Trunk lessons are now available on video in both Russian and Mongolian.
