How Kids Can Save Snow Leopards

My whole basement is full of toys and I don’t need any more toys.

Maia Gradante, on her eleventh birthday – 2003

Maia Gradante is a leader. She took the traditional birthday, which is all about receiving, and turned it around. Maia’s birthday was about giving. Maia’s friends donated the money they would have spent on her gifts to an organization that works to save cheetahs in the wild. “They are my favorite animals,” Maia said, “and they are endangered.”

Maia is not alone. The Snow Leopard Conservancy also congratulates Allison Beers for the awesome act of devoting her ninth birthday party to helping save wild snow leopards. Her effort raised $255 in lieu of gifts, and serves as a wonderful demonstration of the power of kids to make a major difference for the good of our planet.

Maia, Allison and their friends found a way to make a difference in the world. If you find their example to be inspiring, if you are ready for a fun and exciting birthday that you will never forget, perhaps you should have a Snow Leopard Birthday.
